From October, Amrita TV will telecast four reality shows 13 hours a week, concurrently on prime time. In fact, there is a talent hunt show being telecast on the channel every day of the week, which is based on public sms voting.
Amrita TV’s prime-time band begins with ‘Pepsodent Super Dancer Junior,’ which is telecast every day (at 7 p.m. on weekends and at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday). ‘Lux Super Star Global’ is telecast five hours a week, Monday through Friday (8 p.m. to 9 p.m.). ‘Oxywash Best Actor,’ a talent hunt to nurture and discover actors, is telecast on weekdays (9.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.). The latest reality show, which is the first of its kind in Malayalam television, is ‘Take Care Raga Ratnam Junior,’ a Carnatic music talent hunt in the 10-15 age group for which auditions were held in Bangalore, Chennai and Kerala. Veteran music maestro V. Dakshinamurthy is the chief jury of this show.
The channel has set up the Amrita Reality Centre and Studio on a one-acre plot with a built up area of 26,500 sq.ft., adjoining a lake, in Thiruvananthapuram.
The centre is also the venue for grooming sessions for contestants for the four shows. Seventy contestants from India and abroad are participating in the shows.
Amrita TV had pioneered the reality show saga in Malayalam television in June 2006 with the launch of ‘Super Star.’ It ushered in spectacular sets, multi-location auditions, live telecast of the grand finale as a ground event in front of a large audience, and simultaneous sms voting to determine the results and the winner.
