CELEBRATIONS Ramya won the Best Actress award for Amruthadhaare

The award function was all glitter, glamour and goof-ups. For the stars it was also socialising time

Award functions give stars the rare chance to socialise and catch up. Very rarely are celebrities known to meet casually for a pow wow. It's the size of their ego that's the obstacle, not lack of time. Also it's common knowledge that most of the heroes can't stand each other. Celebrities' feel the later they arrive for a do the more important they are. The Udaya TV awards gala was the usual, badly planned with speeches and bloopers aplenty. Daisy Bopanna tripped while Ramya and Maanya's sequined costumes ripped. Ramya had rehearsed tirelessly but had to leave the stage when her dress gave way. She did return but was listless. "I goofed big time," she confessed though it was not her fault. She won the best actress award for Amruthadhaare while Shivraj Kumar won the best actor award for Jogi. The organisers have to keep everyone happy so Darshan and Rakshita got the best on-screen couple award while Ravichandran was pacified with the best supporting actor prize for Aham Premasmi! The Raj Kumar family was there in full strength. The one thing that was planned to perfection was CM Kumaraswamy not bumping into Ambareesh. The latter arrived after the former left. What will the channels beam? * * *Cyanide Ramesh is in Calcutta at the ongoing international festival where his film was shown to thunderous applause. " It's so pleasing when your work is appreciated," says the delighted director. The Tamil version is getting released in December with the promos already causing curiosity. The film is called Kuppi (bottle) because films with English titles don't get tax sops. Ramesh meanwhile is busy interviewing the police top brass for his next venture about Veerappan. "My version will be different. I'll first finish the script and think about casting. This time it'll be in Kannada and Tamil." The Hindi version of Cyanide is in limbo because Ramu is busy with Sholay. Ramesh plans to finish the Veerappan venture before March by which time Ramu will be free. * * *Vetaiyadu Vilayadu is a stupendous success and Gautam Menon is beaming. Producers are clamouring to sign him but the director is sticking by his favourites. He's finished Pachai Kili Muthu Charam (PKMC) with Sarath Kumar and will be starting his next with Surya. "No, it's not a cop story," says the director emphatically. "I wouldn't like to reveal the story of my next film but it's definitely not a super natural thriller as reported. I would say it's a normal commercial film with the necessary ingredients in the right proportions." Gautam was spotted on the sets of Kamal's Dashavatharam but denies collaboration. * * *Deepika Padukone is out of the Surya starrer because she's given bulk dates to a Shahrukh starrer directed by Farah Khan. Don't be surprised if you find a bevy of aspiring beauties lined up outside Gautams' house. His wife will be a worried woman.S. SHIVA KUMAR
