Bhoomija, charitable trust founded to showcase the best of Indian classical music and arts, presents a Dhrupad recital by Uday Bhawalkar.

A front-ranking Dhrupad singer of our times, Bhawalkar started his training at 15, in the traditional guru-shishya parampara under Dhrupad maestros Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. A torchbearer of the Dhrupad legacy, Bhawalkar is a very popular concert musician and a much-loved Guru. He is an empanelled guru at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata. Bhawalkar is a keen collaborator too – his concert at the Prithvi Theatre with Ustad Zakir Hussain playing the Pakhawaj is legendary. He has also worked with Astad Deboo, Ensemble Modern in Germany and musicians from Spain, Georgia and the USA.

The concert on March 9 is at MLR Convention Centre, JP Nagar, Bangalore, 7 p.m. He will be accompanied by Sukhad Munde on the pakhawaj. For details, call 080 40182222.
