SEMINAR A forum for research on dance will have a national conference in Bangalore today
Noopura Bhramari dance researchers’ forum in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan presents a national level conference on “Dance research: Proximity and Practicality” on February 15 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
“The long felt lacuna in the dance research arena has been about its holistic integrated approach in encompassing all its allied forms (beyond the performing arts as well) including literature, music, theatre, sculpture, painting and art history,” says Manorama B.N. chairperson Noopura Bhramari. “The Noopura Bhramari Dance Researchers Forum hopes and strives to re-establish this missing link.”
The conference will begin with the release of ‘Noopuraagama’, a dance research journal; the Noopura Bhramari Souvenir and the re-launch of the website www.noopurabhramari.com.
The inauguration will be followed by a presentation of research papers on the broad themes of dance history, re-construction of old techniques and media participation by experts such as Dr. Shobha Shashikumar, Padmini Shridhar, Shalini Vittal, Kaberi Sen and Dr. Karuna Vijayendra.
The evening session will begin with a valedictory function, where awards and prizes for the state-level dance quiz and elocution competition will be presented. Two more awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Best Dance Critic Award will be presented to Leela Ramanathan, artistic director Meenakshi Sundaram Centre for performing Arts and Korgi Shankaranaryana Upadhyaya respectively.
The conference concludes with a research-based reconstruction on Natyashastra Purvarangam and Navarasa Krishna.
“Dance research: Proximity and Practicality” will take place at the Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road, Bangalore. For details, call 9964140927 or send an e-mail to email@example.com.
