The Sathguru Gnanananda Hall of Narada Gana Sabha came alive with characters from the Mahabharata on the occasion of ‘Bharatham Mahabhaaratham’, the week-long thematic festival of performing arts organised by Natyarangam.

On the inaugural evening (August 27), Natyarangam honoured Bharatanatyam exponents and gurus Shanta and V.P. Dhananjayan with a citation and gold medals.

Endowment awards were presented to dance vocalist Radha Badri, senior Bharatanatyam dancers Anuradha and Sridhar and Kirti Ramgopal (young talent).

Chief guest V. Shankar (president, Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeeta Sabha, Mumbai) spoke about India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

He released a souvenir on ‘Bharatham Mahabhaaratham’ and also three dance DVDs of ‘Teertha Bharatham’ (on three sacred rivers presented in last year’s festival) brought out by Swathi Soft Solutions in collaboration with Natyarangam.

Artist Keshav was honoured for his illustrations of Mahabharatham adorning the invitation, brochure and souvenir brought out by Natyarangam.
