Romance, sentiment and action — Tamil films for Pongal have them all.

The harvest festival is being celebrated with the release of five films — They include Vijayakanth in "Perarasu", Vijay in "Adhi," Ajith in "Paramasivan," Silambarasan in "Saravana," Prabhu and Murali in "Pasakkiligal."Perarasu" is a film wherein Vijayakanth is acting in a dual role.Directed by Utayan the film has Damini, Prak ash Raj and Pandiyaran. When S. A. Chandrasekaran produces a film, he directs it too. But for a change he has asked Ramana to direct ``Adhi," which has Vijay in the lead role, Trisha as the co-star. Screenplay and dialogue are also by Ramana. The film is the Tamil version of a popular Telugu film with essential changes made in the script, according to the director. "All the ingredients to make it a successful film have been added. We have a good star cast in Vijay, Trisha, Vivek, Sai Kumar, Prakash R aj and others. Vidyasagar has scored the music, Soundararajan has handled the camera, Suresh Urs has done the editing and Peter Hain stunts," elaborates Chandrasekharan. ``The story is the hero with Trisha and I sharing opportunities equally," says Vijay . P. Vasu is coming out with ``Paramasivan." Full of optimism about the commercial success of the film, he says, ``Ajith is a convict with a big prize on his head. It is absolutely entertainment-oriented and Ajith has worked very hard. For the die-h ard fans of Ajith it would be a treat to watch him perform some daredevil stunts. The film, however, doesn't lack in tender love scenes. Laila will certainly be remembered for her work." A calm and composed Ajith would rather leave it to the people to judge his film. Silambarasan and director K. S. Ravikumar are coming together for the first time in Deivanai Movies' "Saravana." It is the remake of the popular Telugu hit "Badra."

Car chase

From what the unit hands indicate, songs and the fights are going be the highlights of the film. The court scene dance of Meghna Naidu will make the audience come back to the theatre, they say. The car chase, involving 30 Tata Sumos and Scorpio cars, has been shot with six cameras and 500 junior artistes. The camera has been cranked by Arthur A. Vilson. Ravi Kale is the main villain. Srikanth Deva has scored he music. Thanikachalam has done the editing. The story of Anjugam Kalaikoodam's "Pasakkiligal" has been penned by Kalaingar Karunanidhi. He has also written a song for the film, produced by Rama. Narayanan. The cast includes Prabhu, Murali, Navya Nair, Vineeth, Roja, Manorama, Nasser, Vadivelu, Kuyili and T. P . Gajendran. Directed by Amirtham it has the music of Vidyasagar.``I'm happy to be involved in a film for which the DMK president has written the story and dialogue," says Rama. Narayanan. ``Both Prabhu and Murali have worked with vigour. Navya Nair has essayed her role with understanding. It is a family drama which can be seen by all," he adds. Director Amirtham is full of praise for his producer. "Rama. Narayanan has directed 100 films. He has helped me with the production of `Pasakkiligal,' which has come out very well. It is sure to win audience approval," he says. Panneerselvam has handled the camera and Raj Keerthi, editing.
