Goddess Lakshmi’s travel over the seven hills of Tirumala was enacted well.
The concept of Sripadarchana is to hold back people from running after materialistic pleasures and selfishness and turn them towards God as the body is perishable. Sripadarchana, was presented last week at Ravindra Bharati by Venkat and his disciples under the aegis of Nrutya Darpan, the Union Human Resource Development Ministry that funded this project and the State Department of Culture who gave them Ravindra Bharati theatre rent-free.
There are only three important characters, that of Lakshmi and also Alamelumanga played by Terala Sravanthi, Annamacharya by Venkat and Narada by Varun. It was a 20-member team with most of them being used for group dances.
The rendition of songs of Annamayya was the musical, presented as Annamayya singing through his travel moving along with Alamelumanga.
Finally, Alamelumanga realises how the rest of the human society is craving to reach Tirumala and seek salvation (mukti).
This journey from Tirupati to Tirumala opens Lakshmi’s eyes, dissolving all her negative emotions and understanding the relationship between Jeevatma and Paramatma.
The main artistes acquitted themselves well and the dance format stuck to the Kuchipudi idiom.G.S.
