Sangeetha Dhama will felicitate flautist Venkatesh Godkhindi

The Sangeetha Dhama Music Academy in J.P. Nagar is celebrating its fourth anniversary on October 6 with the felicitation of well-known flautist Venkatesh Godkhindi. The event will also feature the release of an album featuring light music based on the poetry of noted Kannada litterateur Doddarange Gowda called “Raaga-Rangu”.

Venkatesh Godkhindi will be felicitated with the Sangeetha Kala Kausthubha, which the Sangeetha Dhama has been giving each year to prominent musicians in the country.

The various songs on “Raaga-Rangu” have been sung by Jyothi Ravi Prakash, Supriya Acharya, Yashwant Halebandi, Shamita Malnad and Pravin Godkhindi, as well as well-known singer C. Ashwath. The music for the album has been provided by thedirector of Sangeetha Dhama and musician Mrityunjaya Doddavada. CDs and cassettes of the album are being brought out by the Lahari music company.

It is the music scored by Mrityunjaya for the “Prithvi Pragaatha” (long poem) written by Doddarange Gowda in the Madhuvanthi raaga that is the highlight of the album. Doddavada has himself sung this song along with Jyothi Ravi Prakash.

During the Sangeetha Dhama’s anniversary celebrations, the singers on “Raaga-Rangu” will perform live all eight songs featured on the album. Besides this, a cultural programme by the students of Sangeetha Dhama will also be presented.

Sangeetha Dhama’s fourth anniversary celebrations are being held from 6 p.m. onwards on October 6 at H.N. Kalakshetra in Jayanagar 6th Block. For details, contact 94481 39784.
