Sixty children presented delightful Kuchipudi performances.

A saliently sober solo in the Kuchipudi style presented by the standard VII student Rajamanoor Medha from Hyderabad, marked a splendid finale for the mini-festival of music and dance of Visakha Music Academy at Kalabharati.

A ballet titled Ramaa Raamaneeyam similarly presented by 60 young pupils of Sri Narada Music and Dance College, marked the 27th anniversary of the institute, held at the VUDA Children Theatre the previous evening.

Commendable solo

Medha briskly started with Vaataapiganapathim (Hamsadhvani — Aadi), presented Sambhomahadeva (Purvikalyani — Roopakam), Baalakanakamayachela (Athana — Aadi) before the main item Navaragamalika varnam — Aaditalam. Later, she sustained the tempo presenting items like Okaparikokapari of Annamayya, Jayadeva’s Chandanacharchitha, Balamurali’s Brindavani Thilana and Tandanaana of Annamayya (Bowli) adroitly.

Nattuvangam was expertly provided by her guru, Maddali Ushagayatri in the able company of vocals by Srivalli Sarma, mridangam by Sridharacharya, violin by K. Anilkumar and flute by Venkatesh.

Makeup by Surabhi Kesavarao was excellent. Ramaa Raamaniyam produced by Ivaturi Sarojini for the Narada Music and Dance college founded and managed by herself, was scripted and set to music by Kaaturi Ranganayaki who also played the veena.

It was well choreographed and directed by Chittella Ramaasundari. Babulu Mastaru and Rajakumari in the company of Ananth on mridangam and Prasad on keyboard rendered vocals.

The 75-minute show was marked with arduous effort by sarojini for achieving laudable team work with children aged between 6 and 15.

Kalabharati School of Music and Dance

A separate section to impart systematic training to play mridangam was added to the School of Music and Dance run by Visakha Music and Dance Academy in the premises of its auditorium, Kalabharati. Noted mridangam vidwan G. Venkatarao was appointed as the teacher. The section was inaugurated by Sangeetha Kalaanidhi Nedunuri Krishnamurty on last Sunday morning.

Managing trustees of VMDA, S. Gopala Sastry and G.R.K. Prasad (Rambabu) spoke on the occasion.
