EVENT ‘Darpan' comes to IHC this Friday.

“D arpan,” Odissi recital by five artistes choreographed by renowned dancer Ranjana Gauhar will be performed at India Habitat Centre on Friday as part of the HCL Concert Series. Swati Sharma, a disciple of Ranjana performing in ‘Darpan' says , “As the show is all about Odissi dance form, ‘Darpan' portrays itself as the true mirror to traditional values. I am looking ahead for the abhinaya in which we are demonstrating the remarkable impression of Holi festival based on the Radha-Krishna theme”. “I have been a Bharatnatyam dancer for 15 years now and for the past few years I am performing Odissi under the supervision of Ranjana ji.”

Vrinda Chada is a class 10 student and a young performer elaborates about the performance. “We begin with ‘Swagtam' to salute the audience by a prayer dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati. Then we have the traditional ‘Batu' in honour of Batuka Bhairava, one of the 64 aspects of Shiva. Later we perform Pallavi (elaboration of dance and music) which is choreographed in raag Saveri. Ashtapadis is another Odissi item based on the lyrical poem “Sri Geet Govindam” by saint poet Jaidev written in the 12th century. The programme will conclude with the dance-item of pure nritta performed in fast tempo accompanied with rhythmic syllables played on mardala based on raga Bhairav.”
