With Deepavali round the corner, TV channels are busy putting together special programmes. Here’s what some channels have to offer on November 12 and 13:

Jaya TV

From ‘Roja’ to ‘Rockstar,’ A.R. Rahman has mesmerised music lovers with his brand of music that combines classical, rock, jazz and other genres seamlessly. Singer Chinmayee talks to the whizkid about his journey in ‘Netru Illadha Maatram’ on Tuesday, 11 a.m.

In ‘Jackpot: Diwali Special’ on Sunday, 8 p.m., actors Anjali, Dhanshika, Oviya and Sandhya will compete with singers Chinmayee, Charulatha Mani, Madhumita and Ramya. Simran is the host.

Zee Tamil

At 7 a.m., in ‘Olimayamana Ethirkaalam - Diwali special,’ watch a coverage of Thiru Velankadu Siva Temple. At 9 a.m., in ‘Netru Indru Naalai’, comedian Santhanam talks about his brand of humour and his celluloid journey.

Makkal TV

November 12: ‘Deepa Oli Santhai’ (5.30 p.m.)showcases new products launched in the market – clothes, jewellery, sweets and crackers.

At 6.05 p.m., watch ‘Vizhakkaala Kalaigal’ where the spotlight will be on folk traditions such as Thappattam, Kavadi, Karagam and Paalkudam. In ‘Makkal Kalai Iravu’ (10.30 p.m.), the story of Deepavali is narrated though a street play.

November 13: At 6.30 a.m., in ‘Parambariya Kuliyal’, the importance of the ritual oil bath is discussed. It’s time for devotional music with singer Shiva in ‘Isaiyum Tamizhum’ at 7 a.m.

‘Asura Vadham’ at 7.30 a.m. is a thematic Bharatanatyam programme. At 8.30 a.m., ‘Maayamillai Manthiramillai’ presents a magic show with TV actors participating.

Children in an orphanage celebrate the festival of lights with the TV crew in ‘Amarkalam’ (11.02 a.m.). Traditional recipes will be shown in ‘Deepa Oli Samayal’ at 1 p.m. while the channel salutes the efforts of the various public service departments in ‘Seiyyum Thozhilaey Deivam’ (2 p.m.).

‘Avalin Aarohanam’ at 9.02 p.m. is a face-to-face with actor-director Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, who shares her thoughts on cinema in general and her film in particular.

Sri Sankara TV

From Pattimandram to Pattasu, the channel has variety to offer. Speakers will debate on the subject: What helps uplift life – science or spiritualism. The moderator is Prof. Ramalingam. Singer Deepan Chakravarti traces his music journey and a short film brings the story behind the making of crackers. Among other highlights, on Tuesday (Nov 12), 4 p.m., a vocal recital will be presented by Shamita Malnad. On November 13, at 6 p.m., watch the Bhajan Samraat Grand Finale-part 1.
