Slumdog Millionaire

Jamal Mallik (Dev Patel), an eighteen-year-old, who hails from the wrong side of the track, manages to enter the TV show ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?’ He is but a step away from winning the coveted first prize of twenty million rupees when he is arrested on charges of cheating on the show.

The Danny Boyle-directed Oscar-winning film also stars Anil Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Freida Pinto, Irrfan Khan and Mahesh Manjrekar, along with child actors Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail.

The Strangers

(Sony Pix, Tuesday, 9 p.m.)

A couple staying in an isolated vacation house, return late after attending a wedding when someone knocks on their door in the middle of the night. When they open the door, strangers invade the house, their faces hidden behind masks. What ensues is a violent fight for survival. Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman and Glenn Howerton star in this thriller.

Batman Begins

(HBO, Sunday, 9 p.m.)

Bruce Wayne is all of eight when he falls into a cave full of bats. He develops a fear of the creature. While watching an opera with his parents, he urges them to leave the theatre as the show features bat-like creatures.

Outside the theatre, Bruce’s parents are killed by a mugger. Bruce blames himself for his parents’ death. A mysterious instructor by the name Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson) takes Bruce under his wing and trains him to become a ninja. Later, the adult Bruce (Christian Bale) returns to Gotham City, his native town, planning to end the mob rule there. Also stars Gary Oldman.

The Tuxedo

(WB Movies, Saturday, 9 p.m.)

This hilarious spy spoof involves a magical tuxedo, which grants its wearer special abilities, and a corporate terrorist who threatens to poison the United States’ fresh water supply with bacteria that spills electrolytes into the blood and totally dehydrates the host. Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love Hewitt are in the lead.


(WB Movies, Monday, 9 p.m.)

Astronomer Dr. Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) is interested in contacting aliens. She manages to contact the star, Vega, and decodes their messages which contain instructions to make a machine. Matthew McConaughey and John Hurt are the others in the cast.
