This is a film about a man's journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and what happens along the way. Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) embarks on a journey to Tamil Nadu to immerse the ashes of his grandfather in the holy waters of Rameshwaram. En route, he meets Meenalochini (Deepika Padukone), who hails from a small town in Tamil Nadu, and whose brother (Sathyaraj) is a local son. As they find love through this journey in the lands of South India, an unexpected drive awaits them. What follows is a series of adventures where Rahul finds himself in odd situations, challenged with an unknown language! The film is directed by Rohit Shetty.

When Rousoulli, the bandit chief, attacks the Sultanat, he is disillusioned by Lieutenant Khalid. He manages to capture Khalid and his pregnant wife. Khalid's wife gives birth to a boy and dies. An American woman saves an injured Khalid who is left to die in the desert. So while Khalid's first-born Sultan is brought up by Rousoulli, his second born, Samir is sent abroad to live with his mother. Khalid swears that he will kill the bandit chief and he does so years later. Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Sridevi, Karan Kapoor and Juhi Chawla play pivotal roles.
