(STAR Movies, Saturday, 9 p.m.)

This heart-warming 2011 war drama directed by Steven Spielberg revolves round Albert Narracott (Jeremy Irvine), a teenager and Joey, the Bay Thoroughbred foal he comes to love. An adaptation of British author Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 children’s novel of the same name, the film is set before and during World War I. The cast includes David Thewlis, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch and Emily Watson.

(STAR Movies, Sunday, 6.50 p.m.)

Valentine Mckee and Earl Bassett, small-town handymen living in a small desert community, stumble upon several strange phenomena, including a couple of people who’ve died under unexplained circumstances. Eventually, they and their neighbours find the cause… it’s gigantic prehistoric worm-like creatures that streak under the desert the way fish swim through oceans, reaching up and grabbing anything they need for food. Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and Finn Carter are in the lead roles.
