Budding managers of the Indian School of Business came up with an innovative idea to create a sporting league for them on the lines of popular Indian Premier League. Named as ISB's Super League (ISL), it will have franchises that are owned, managed and staffed by students of the ISB.
The four teams - Hyderabad Hurricanes, The Titans, Hyderabad Nizams and Raging Bulls were won in auction based on real money where several students bid for teams. Each player was ‘sold' in a live auction based on virtual currency. With more than 570 students, 3000 plus alumni, staff and spouses all involved in this exercise, its surely going to generate lot of excitement.
The ISL inaugurated by Indian Badminton coach, Pullella Gopichand will go up to December. The league promises to be action packed three months at ISB, wherein teams will vie with each other in 9 sporting events to win the coveted ‘Best Franchise' trophy, along with whopping cash prizes.
The ISB feels that through the league, student owners will get to gain real expertise in sports management, network with fellow students, faculty and alumni and experience in brand building and promotions.
