Information ScienceThe National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, has invited applications for the entrance test for admission to the Associateship in Information Sciences for the year 2006-08. This two-year course is equivalent Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences recognised by the Government of India and many universities.Those who have a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate marks in master's degree or BE/MBBS or B.LISc. plus one year of relevant experience after B.LISc. are eligible to apply for the test. The test will be conducted in New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Those who qualify in the test have to attend an interview in New Delhi. Outstation candidates appearing for the interview will be paid second-class sleeper return rail fare.Twenty-five students will be selected based on the test and interview. The test will be held on July 12 and the interview will be held during the second week of August. There is also provision for scholarship to 40 per cent of non-sponsored meritorious students at Rs.1,000 a month for nine months.Application forms and other details can be downloaded from the website www.niscair.res.in . Last date for receipt of applications is June 23.Population studiesThe International Institute for Population Sciences, Deonar, Mumbai, has invited applications for the entrance test to be held on July 20 for admission to Master in Population Studies (MPS) and M.Phil. in Population Studies courses. Duration of MPS is one year and 18 months for M.Phil. Those who have a master's degree in Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Social Anthropology, Geography, Social Work, Population Studies, Mathematics or Statistics are eligible for admission. Students expecting results by the end of July can also apply. Selection will be based on a written admission test followed by a personal interview.Indian students admitted to MPS course are offered Government of India fellowships of Rs.2000 a month.Application forms and more details can be downloaded from the institute website: www.iipsindia.org.
