MMST admission test
The School of Medical Science and Technology under the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, has invited applications for an admission test to be held on April 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon for admission to its Master in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) course. It is a unique three-year programme aimed at medical graduates (MBBS degree) with aptitude for interdisciplinary medical research and application of technology in medicine. All the candidates admitted to the programmes are offered an assistantship of Rs.15,000 per month.
How to apply
MMST 2010 application can be submitted only by an online process by accessing the website http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/mmst between February 1- March 5. Applicant should first pay the application fee of Rs.1,000 (Rs.500 for SC / ST and physcially challenged candidates) through a demand draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur payable at any nationalised bank in Kharagpur, West Bengal.
The draft details are required while filling up the online form. A print-out of the online application should be sent along with the demand draft and attested copies of relevant certificates to the Chairman, GATE IIT Khargpur, Kharagpur- 721302 by speed post so as to reach the addressee on or before March 15. Admission to M.Sc. Economics
The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), an advanced research institute established by the Reserve Bank of India at Mumbai has invited applications for admission to the following programmes.
Duration: 2 years. Eligibility: BA/ B.Sc. in economics / B.Com / B.Stat/ B.Sc. (physics or mathematics) or B.Tech / BE with at least a second division in economics and first division in other disciplines.
M.Phil. / Ph.D. (development studies)
Duration: 4 years. Eligibility: MA /M.Sc. in economics / M.Stat./ M.Sc.(physics or mathematics or environmental science or operations research) / MBA / M.Tech. /ME / B.Tech./ BE with at least 55 per cent aggregate marks ineconomics and 60 per cent aggregate marks in other disciplines.
M.Phil / Ph.D. students will get a monthly stipend of Rs.12,000 in the first two years and Rs.18,000 after Ph.D. registration from the third year onwards.

The IGIDR has also invited applications for admission to the External Ph.D. programme in development studies. Eligibility: MA/M.Sc. in economics / M.Stat./ M.Sc. (physics, mathematics , statistics, environmental sciences or operations research) / MBA/ M.Tech./ ME / B.Tech. / BE or equivalent with at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in economics and 60 per cent aggregate marks in other disciplines. Last date for receipt of completed applications is April 30.
Admission to integrated Ph.D.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, has invited applications for admission to integrated Ph.D. programmes in materials sciences, chemical science and biological science.
For materials science: Bachelor's degree in any branch of science. Those with a Bachelor's degree in engineering with an aptitude for scientific research will also be considered. Candidates are expected to have a sound knowledge in the fundamentals of physics, chemistry and mathematics.
For chemical sciences: A Bachelor's degree in any branch of science with chemistry as a major subject.
For biological science: Bachelor's degree in any branch of science / mathematics / statistics. Those with a Bachelor's degree in engineering and an aptitude for scientific research will also be considered.
For molecular biology and genetics: A Bachelor's degree in any branch of science. For all the above integrated Ph.D. programmes applicants should have a minimum of 55 per cent marks at the Bachelor's degree level. Those appearing for final degree examination in 2010 can also apply. Last date for receipt of completed applications is March 8.
MS/ Ph.D. programmes in science and engineering.
Eligibility: Those who have qualified NET-JRF under CSIR-UGC fellowship scheme or DBT/ ICMR -JRF or GATE / JEST / any other equivalent national-level examination are eligible to apply.
