The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi has invited applications for a selection test to be held on February 8 for admission to Class VI for the academic session 2014-15. There are 595 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the country. The medium of instruction is the mother tongue or regional language up to Class VIII and thereafter English for Maths and Science and Hindi for Social Science. The schools follow the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus.
All educational expenses of the students, including for tuition, boarding, lodging, uniforms and textbooks, are met by the government. But a fee of Rs. 200 a month will have to be paid from Class IX, exempted for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and families below the poverty line, girls and the physically challenged.
