Civil Services preliminary exam

The Union Public Service Commission has invited applications for the Civil Services preliminary examination to be held on May 26. Apply online on www.upsconline.nic.in till April 4.

The examination centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Puducherry, Panaji, Madurai, Bangalore, Tirupati, Vishakhapatnam and Mumbai. The main examination is likely to be held in November or December. There are nearly 1,000 vacancies. The services and posts to which recruitments will be made include the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service and the Indian Police Service.

Applicants should be Indian citizens of ages 21 to 30 as on August 1. The upper age limit is raised by five years for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and by three years for those in the Other Backward Caste category. Applicants should be graduates or those who have appeared for the final degree examination and awaiting results. A candidate is allowed four attempts at the examination. Those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes get an unlimited number of chances. Those in the Other Backward Caste category get seven chances. Applicants must be physically and medically fit.

The application fee of Rs. 100 can be paid at any branch of the State Bank of India or the State Bank of Travancore. Women, the physically challenged and those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes are exempted from the fee. Visit www.upsc.gov.in for a detailed notification of the examination. This year, the preliminary examination will be common for candidates applying for the Civil Services Examination and the Indian Forest Service examination.

AIIMS test

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, has invited applications for the Medical Postgraduate Entrance Examinations for admission to its MD, MS, MCh, MDS, MHA, DM/MCh and Ph.D. programmes starting in July. Apply online on www.aiimsexams.org till April 6.

The entrance examination for the MD, MS, MCh and MDS programmes will be held in Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Guwahati on May 12 and for the DM/MCh and MHA courses in Delhi on May 19. The test for the Ph.D. programme will be held in Delhi on July 6.

The application fee of Rs. 1,000 (Rs. 800 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) should be paid through a challan downloaded from the Internet at any branch of the State Bank of India or through debit and credit cards. The applications will be considered only after confirmation of payment of fee.

Candidates sponsored by the governments, the armed forces, autonomous bodies and public sector units are required to fill the prescribed online application form indicating their choice of the subject.

GPAT

The All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, has invited applications for the national-level Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test for admission to postgraduate pharmacy programmes.

The computer-based test will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. from May 16 to 18.

The test centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangalore, Madurai, Mysore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.

Those with a degree in Pharmacy and those in the final year of the B.Pharm course may apply on www.aicte-gpat.in before April 8. Choose three test centres in the order of preference and the allotment will be on a first come, first served basis.

The test fee of Rs. 1,200 (Rs. 600 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe and the physically challenged) can be paid through Net banking and credit or debit card or at any branch of the State Bank of India through a challan generated online.

Amrita medical entrance test

Applications have been invited for the entrance examination for admission to MBBS and BDS courses at the Amrita School of Medicine and Dentistry in Kochi to be held on May 19. The examination centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Amritapuri (Kollam), Kochi, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Kolkata Apply online on www.amrita.edu before April 30. Those who have passed Plus Two in the first attempt with 60 per cent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology taken together and 60 per cent in English may apply. Age should be between 17 and 23 as on December 31, 2013.

Registration can be done only online and the confirmation page of the online application will be received till May 7.
