Hotel management JEE

The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology and the Indira Gandhi National Open University have invited applications for the national-level Joint Entrance Examination (JEE 2008) for admission to the three-year B.Sc. hospitality and hotel administration course conducted at hotel management and catering institutes, including the one at Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram. The approximate number of seats available nationally is 4,045.

Those who have passed Plus Two or any equivalent examination, or appearing for it this year, in any stream with English as one of the subjects are eligible to apply.

The upper age limit is 22 as on July 1, 2008. For Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, it is 25.

The examination is on May 10. In Kerala, the information brochure and application form can be obtained on payment of Rs. 800 (Rs. 400 for SC/ST candidates) till April 11 from the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, G.V. The filled application form, acknowledgement card and admit card in triplicate should be sent to the JEE Cell, National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, A- 34, Sector 62, Noida – 201 301, through registered post to reach there on or before April 11.

The three-hour entrance examination covers 30 questions each in the following areas: reasoning and logical deduction; numerical ability and scientific aptitude; general knowledge and current affairs; general English; and aptitude for the service sector. In Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram is the test centre.

The three-year B.Sc. course equips students with skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge their supervisory responsibilities in the hospitality sector.

MBBS, BDS entrance

Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, Chennai, has invited applications for a national-level entrance examination to be held on May 25 for admission to its MBBS and BDS courses.

Those who have passed the higher secondary, Plus Two or any equivalent examination, or are appearing for it in March-April 2008, with English, physics, chemistry and biology or botany and zoology, with marks as prescribed by the respective statutory councils, are eligible to apply. Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune are the examination centres.

Application forms and prospectus will be issued from March 10. These can be downloaded from the website www.srmc.edu. For obtaining them by post, send a requisition letter, along with a demand draft for Rs. 1,100 drawn in favour of the Registrar, Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, Chennai – 600 116 to that address.

BHU entrance

Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varnasi – 221 005, has invited applications for an entrance test for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including some professional programmes.

Undergraduate courses include B.Sc. agriculture, LL.B. and B.Ed. Postgraduate courses include MA, M.Sc. and M.Sc. Tech. in various disciplines, MFA, M.Lib.Sc., M.Ed. (Special), LL.M., MCA, M.Sc. (agriculture) and MBA in agri-business.

Sale of application forms and information bulletin started on February 27. The last date for the receipt of filled applications is March 25.
