Welfare programmes must be implemented rigorously and more human development programmes must be promoted for the BPL category people, to bring equality in the society, Vice-Chairman of REECAP K.C. Reddy said while inaugurating a symposium on concerns of growth and equity, organised by Department of Economics of Andhra University in honour of Rector and a senior professor of the department S.K.V. Suryanarayana Raju, who retired on Saturday from university service on superannuation.

Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju wanted the natural resources used extensively to achieve economic equality in the society.

Director of CESS S. Galab in his keynote address explained the various welfare programmes of the government.

Principal of AU College of Arts and Commerce D. Prabhakara Rao presided. HoD of Economics P. Tarakumari explained about the symposium.

Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao, Director of SAARC Studies Centre M. Prasada Rao, Dean of CDS T. Koteswara Rao and others spoke.

In the presentation session of the symposium, presided over by Pro Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University D. Harinarayana, former Principal K. Sreerama Murthy and senior professor M. Bhavani Shankar made presentations. The symposium concluded that coordination between growth and equity was necessary for inclusive growth.
