Students told to develop entrepreneurial skills

Instead of focussing only on gaining a job after completion of their course, engineering students must equip themselves with entrepreneurial skills that may enable them to provide jobs to others also, said Chairman and CEO of Hyderabad-based Geny Edu D.V. Ram Kumar.

He was addressing students at VAIBHAV – 2013, a tech fest organised on the campus of at St. Ann’s College of Engineering and Technology (SACET) at Chirala in Prakasam district.

Mr. Ram Kumar said though India was a developing country, there was no dearth of intellectual wealth here.

T. A. Pavan Kumar, Personnel Manager, ILTD, Chirala, said it was observed that students who came from rural backgrounds lagged behind in communication and inter-personal skills though their academic performance was satisfactory. As far as knowledge was concerned, these students were no less than their counterparts in IITs but for the attitude.

Participation in events like these would help them overcome fear and apprehensions, he said.

College secretary V. Ramakrishna Rao, Correspondent V. Lakshmana Rao said over 1,000 students drawn from various colleges across the State had become part of the two-day event.

Former minister and founder chairman of the college Vanama Venkateswara Rao the objective of the institution was to impart quality education to rural students at affordable fee. He wanted students in the region to make use of the opportunity and carve out a bright future.

Addressing the valedictory session, Superintendent of Police, Prakasam district, K. Raghu Rami Reddy, exhorted the students to set a long term goal in life. “He said in this technology-driven world, it was mandatory for engineering students to keep pace with the changing trends. Instead of doing an ‘overnight flipping of pages’, students must chalk out an elaborate time table and remain focussed on their studies right from the beginning of the course.

He also inaugurated the newly-come up women’s hostel on the college campus.

The event comprised a series of competitions for students in various activities. These included creative thinking, paper presentation, business quiz, photography, music ‘mirchi’, technical quiz and mini projects.

Convenor of VAIBHAV 2013 K. Jagadeesh Babu, Chairman V. Raghavendra Rao, vice-chairman B. Phani Raju and a host of others participated.
