Growing differences between the authorities of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit and students have affected the functioning of the main campus of the university at Kalady. After days of protests by research scholars and student organisations, the authorities last week decided to close down the Kalady campus indefinitely. Students were directed to vacate the hostels immediately. Students allege that the university authorities have not taken concrete steps to improve the academic and infrastructure facilities available on the campus. Agitating students said that the condition of hostels has become worse due to lack of maintenance. They also urged the authorities to carry out the repair of classrooms. Students are also seeking support for improving other academic facilities on the campus. They have requested the authorities to renew functioning of complaint redressal cell on the campus. The association of research scholars are on a warpath against the university authorities. Researchers point out that the authorities have not fulfilled various promises given to students earlier. University authorities have denied the allegations. They have also made it clear that steps have been taken to ensure the overall development of the university.
