More than 200 scholars from different disciplines of social sciences, arts and humanities stream attended a workshop on “Research Methodology” conducted at the University College of Arts and Social sciences, Osmania University. It aimed to provide students and research scholars pursuing M.Phil and doctoral degree in a capsular module the fundamentals of research, its basic tools and techniques. Participants were provided with an opportunity to interact with veteran academics from different departments of social sciences and humanities, who delivered lectures on a wide range of topics.

P.L. Vishweshwar Rao, Dean, Faculty of Arts, emphasised the need for social sciences research in view of the global changes taking place around the world.

He said that quality research helps in policy making. In a country like India where there are so many social and economic challenges only research can provide the insight to tackle the problems, he added.

Dean of Social Sciences V. Satyanarayana appealed to scholars to take up research seriously as the image of the university depends on the research outputs of its scholars. Principal S. Sudarshan Rao suggested scholars to take up research on burning problems of the society.

The outline of the workshop was presented by Suchitra Patnaik from the Dept. of Journalism.

The workshop garnered a very positive feedback from participants, who hailed from mixed backgrounds.

Participants recounted how the workshop had helped them in gaining valuable inputs and contributed in enriching and refining their approach to research.

Most participants saw the need for a more such exercises in the future which could be of an intensive nature and for a longer duration.
