ACM 2013

The annual event of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) India will be held between January 23-25, at IIT Madras. ACM India has been organising an annual flagship event to discuss the trends in information science and technology, and to celebrate ACM's spirit and India's accomplishments in computing. The list of speakers includes Vint Cerf (Current ACM President, Turing Award Winner, 2004), recognised as one of the fathers of the Internet. For the first time in India, an ACM-Women (ACM-W) seminar on January 24, 2013, will focus on women in IT. The event will be held in Chennai on January 25, 2013 at the Central Lecture Theater (CLT) IIT Madras. More details at:, including the registration process.

ICBE 2013

The Department of Biotechnology, Rajalakshmi Engineering College organised an International Conference on Bioengineering (ICBE 2013) from January 2 -4. The event highlighted the need for study of bioproducts from various sources such as herbs, microorganisms and animals to explore the prospects in drug discovery, health care and disease management.

ICBE  2013 brought together engineers, biotechnologists, biologists, chemists, scientists, industry personal and medical practitioners to a common platform to share creative ideas and innovative solutions for the various challenging problems in the field of health care.

Art competition 

 Niki Hingad Art Foundation has announced it annual art competition. A youth talent contest, it invites school and college students all over the country to participate in an art-drawing contest titled ‘Sit and Draw Art Competition’.The contest will be divided in two parts : A) Sit and draw competition for participants in Mumbai B) Couriering best artwork on the theme given for the participants outside Mumbai. It will be open to participants across the country, with the last day of submission of their artwork being January 25, 2013 (applicable only for outside Mumbai entries).

All winning artworks submitted in B category will be displayed in the art competition to be held on February 2 at Sir J J School Of Arts, Mumbai. All the entries will be judged by a panel from the art fraternity and will be rated on the basis of creativity and originality of the artwork. The jury will select a total of 9 winners in 3 categories from Mumbai and 6 winning entries from other regions.
