Madurai Kamaraj University has launched a new PG programme with practical training in hospitals.
It is admission time in colleges and universities — the right time for introduction of new courses. Madurai Kamaraj University has launched a new programme, Post-Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics, through the Directorate of Distance Education this year.The one-year programme in English medium has an exhaustive syllabus covering a wide range of subjects in nutrition and dietetics. The papers include `nutrition and dietetics,' `biochemistry,' `research methodology and bio-statistics,' `clinical nutrition,' `general and social psychology, besides project work to be undertaken by candidates."We are entering into tie-ups with hospitals and professional training centres to impart training to candidates," says S. Vadivelu, Director of Distance Education.Since tie-ups will be there at various places, students will be attached to hospitals in their respective places. To start with, the university will sign agreements with hospitals in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore soon, which will be extended to other places. It depends on response from students at different places, Dr. Vadivelu says.The course will cover topics on nutrition, including diet during pregnancy and related complications, hypertension, nutritional care in paediatrics, food requirement for pre-school children, school children, adolescents, nutrition care for geriatrics, diet planning etc. The university will supply study materials.
