All institutions will go through an initial period of stabilising academic operations before new courses are approved.
The expert committee appointed by the State government has recommended that from 2012-13, only those self-financing institutions which have run B.Tech. courses for four semesters (whose first batch of students have reached at least the fifth semester of the course and whose results up to fourth semester have been published) will be eligible to apply for new B.Tech. courses or for an increase in the intake.
The sanction will be given only to those institutions with a minimum running average pass percentage in the first appearance in all subjects (full pass) up to the fourth, sixth, and eighth semesters at 35 per cent, 40 per cent, and 45 per cent, respectively.
The minimum pass percentage will be subject to review from time to time in the interest of encouraging quality technical education.
