A study on the alcohol-dependence of Arunthathiyars by cultural anthropologist Francis Jayapathy and psychologist Emmanuel Arockiam will be the first research project to be undertaken by the Centre for Behavioural Sciences at the Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA).

The centre, scheduled to be opened in June, will provide students and staff members of LIBA and others with an integrated approach to studying human behaviour, Prof. Arockiam said. “Students will get an integrated approach with six faculty members from the disciplines of psychology, sociology and social anthropology teaching the courses,” he said.

A strong research component will also be built in. The centre would be offering three-month certificate courses from June and there were also plans to offer one-year diploma courses based on the interest evinced, Prof. Arockiam said.
