With Indo-European Union (EU) trade presently to the tune of 60 billion euros a year and expected to reach about 130 billion euros in the next five years, Indo-EU ties are clearly on an upswing. All this makes it is necessary for Indians to know more about the EU and vice versa.

The Manipal Centre for European Studies (MCES), a joint venture between the EU and Manipal University launched in December 2009, aims at providing students a deeper knowledge on various aspects of the EU.

Presently, MCES offers four courses. They are Master's in European Studies and Management (MESM), Post-Graduate Diploma in Gandhian and Peace Studies, and Certificate Courses in Public Health and Global Health.

MESM is aimed at generating human resource required by European companies operating in India and Indian companies having operations in Europe. It has both the management component and the European Studies component such as European history, culture and languages such as French, German and Spanish.

Students will have to learn two of these three international languages. The MCES offers this course in association with T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal, and Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Bremen, Germany.

This is a two-year course divided into four semesters. Candidates who have secured 50 per cent marks in any discipline at undergraduate level can apply for this course. But they will have to appear for an entrance examination conducted by the Manipal University.

In addition students will have to appear for Group Discussion and Interview. The last date for submitting applications is May 30, 2010.
