The software major IBM organised a workshop on the Vignan University campus in Guntur and certified 49 faculty members, an achievement being cherished by the teaching and student community alike.
The IBM software group through its academic initiative conducted a three-day Faculty Development Programme on “IBM Technologies in general and DB2 in particular” for the faculty of Vignan’s Engineering institutions on University’s Vadlamudi campus.
Workshop aimed at preparing the faculty members to take IBM’s certified database associate exam which according to IBM Information Technology Specialist Saravanan Sekar, would be mandatory for those who aspire for a career in the IBM in near future.
Company’s senior trainer Niladri from academic initiative programme explained the participants the basic concepts of database management systems like relations, schemes, views, procedures, triggers and mapped with existing features of DB2.
He also gave the participants hands on experience on rich and varied functionality of the DB2. The IT specialist conducted an on-line certification test, at which 49 participants comprising faculty and recently passed out students could become certified database associates of DB2.
The IBM extends all kinds of support to the institute to train the students for DB2 certification through the certified teachers, said Mr. Saravanan.
He also said that the IBM not only considers DB2 certified persons for their own requirements but also shares the profiles of associates with its 4,200 strong clientele across the world.
The IBM’s academic initiatives like free certification exam and Great Minds Challenge, a platform to showcase the budding engineers’ talents, were explained to students.
