B.V. Sharma, Faculty at the Department of Anthropology at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been appointed as a member of the Steering Advisory Group for the South Asia Centre for Disability Inclusive Development and Research being set up by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) in Hyderabad, in collaboration with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The group will primarily advise and guide on the vision and mission, and review periodically the achievement of objectives of the Centre. The term of appointment is for a period of three years. The PHFI is an autonomous foundation located in New Delhi, India.
It was created as a public-private initiative and launched by the Prime minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh in 2006 with the aim of enhancing the capacity of public health professionals in the country over five to seven years. Dr. Sharma has also been elected as Joint Secretary of SIMA (Society for Indian Medical Anthropology).
