Campus recruitment it seems is big business in prominent colleges under the university of Kerala. Surpassing all previous records as many as 742 students were bagged by various IT majors during the first round of campus recruitments held at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram.It was more or less the same story at the Sree Chithra College of Engineering, Pappanamcode this year. At the recently concluded first round of campus placements, as many as 258 students received placement offers from companies such as Infosys, TCS, IBS, NeST, and US Technology. While Infosys short-listed 114 candidates, TCS drew up a list of 92, US Technology 38, IBS eight and NeST six students.While 24 students from the biotechnology branch got placements, 48, from the computer science branch landed jobs at the campus recruitment. As many s 18 students from the IT branch tasted success while the corresponding figures for the mechanical automobile, mechanical production and electronics and communication branches were 23, 23 and 122 respectively.The Training and Placement officer of the Career Guidance and Placement Cell at the college, U. Prakash, told The Hindu-Educationplus that the average annual salary offered by the companies this year was Rs.2 lakhs.
