Studying abroad is much more than attaining a degree; it is the knowledge gained in the process which stays with one for a lifetime. While in high school in Chennai, I aspired to study in one of the best universities in the world and in one of the major financial cities.

I was accepted by the City University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to study law. The Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LL.B.) programme in Hong Kong, which I am pursuing, is highly regarded globally, and it provides students a pathway to enter the legal profession. Admission to the programme is quite competitive with the university admitting no more than 50 international students.

I felt highly privileged upon receiving an offer with a scholarship which covered my tuition fees for the entire duration of my four-year degree. Like India, Hong Kong’s legal system is based on the common law system of the U.K.

City University provides its students exchange programmes with universities worldwide. During my study in Hong Kong, I had the opportunity to go on an exchange programme to the University of Oxford (England) and Monash University (Australia).

Hong Kong is Asia’s financial capital and the city’s universities host a number of students from all over the world. It is often regarded as one of the most liveable cities for expatriates and has high international rankings in various aspects.

The CUHK provides education in the fields of business, science and engineering, energy and environment, law, creative media and social sciences. It has the largest single-floor library in Asia and other state-of-the-art facilities on campus.

University life in Hong Kong has laid a solid foundation for my career in law. My passion for the subject coupled with academic achievements in the past four years has helped me get an offer to study a Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme at University College London, U.K.
