Articles galore

Sardar Raja College of Engineering at Alangulam in Tirunelveli district, recently conducted an international conference for engineering students. Over 250 students from various colleges presented their articles in the conference, in which Professor Muthana A.M. Jamel from Higher College of Technology, Sultanate of Oman, participated. Chairman of the college A. Jesus Raja, felicitated the winners of various competitions.

Sports meet

E.M. Gopalakrishna Kone Yadava Women’s College, Madurai, celebrated its 39th Annual Sports Meet on March 4. College president and secretary EMG. S. Indirani delivered the presidential address. Principal Dr. R. Poovazhaki welcomed the gathering. Chief guest R. Thirunavukarasu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order (Madurai City), declared the sports meet open.

ARCANIA’13

The soft launch of ARCANIA’13–a national level technical symposium organised by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Raja College of Engineering and Technology, Madurai, took place on March 12. College chairman G. Nagarajan welcomed the participants. Principal Dr.V. Sekaran and Academic Director Dr. S. M. Sekkilar gave a brief about the symposium. Vice principal Dr.R. Marimuthu introduced chief guest M. Chandra Sekaran, Sub Divisional Manager/BSNL.

Automobile scenario

Pandian Saraswathi Yadav Engineering College, Arasanoor, conducted MERIDE’13, a national level technical symposium on March 14. Principal Dr. K. Kannan welcomed the gathering. M. Selvarathinam, Vice President, Madras SAF – Holland Manufacturing, described the current scenario in the automobile industry.

Parallel computing

A two-day seminar on Parallel Computing Techniques for Engineering and Industrial Applications, Tools and Research Issues was organised by Computer Science and Engineering department of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, on March 13 and 14. Twenty nine participants from various engineering institutions participated. Dr. S. Arivazhagan, principal, presided over the inaugural function.

Women’s Day

P. S. R. Engineering College, Sevalpatti, celebrated Women’s Day on March 7. Dr. Savithiri Subramanian, retired English professor of St. Mary’s College, Tuticorin and Dr. B. Jeyanthi, head of the department of English, Anna University of Technology, Tirunelveli, were the chief guests. College principal Dr. K.R. Viswanathan presided over it.

On entrepreneurship

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Sree Sowdambika College of Engineering, Aruppukottai, organised a seminar on ‘Entrepreneurship Development Programme’ on March 6. College secretary Sundaramoorthy presided over the function. Dr. R. Jayaraman, Member Secretary, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (Tamil Nadu), Madurai, delivered the keynote address.

College Day

Rev. Jacob Memorial Christian College, Ambilikkai, celebrated its 16th College Day on March 15. Dr. R. Jayaraman, Member secretary, centre for entrepreneurship development (Tamil Nadu), Madurai, was the chief guest. College principal Dr. B. Jothikumar delivered the presidential address and presented the annual report of the college.

Graduation Day

The ninth Graduation Day of Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College, Poovanthi, was organised on March 7. Dr. V. Manickavasagam, Registrar, Alagappa University, was the chief guest. He presented the degrees to the graduates. College secretary S. Annamalai and Principal C. Ramalakshmi participated.

Panel discussion

A panel discussion on Union Budget 2013-2014 was organised by the Post Graduate and Research Department of Economics, The American College, Madurai, recently. Dr. K. Parameswaran of Press Information Bureau, auditor C.A.M. Lakshmanan; P. Sirajudeen, DGM, Fenner (India) Ltd; Dr. B. Parthipan, Professor, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University participated in the discussion moderated by Dr. C. Muthuraja. As part of the programme, Dr. M. Davamani Christober, Principal and Secretary inaugurated an ‘Exhibition on Budget Documents.’

More on real estate

Department of Economics of Yadava College, Madurai, organised a seminar on ‘Real Estate Registration – Multitude of Details and Manifold Benefits’ on March 6. M. Baskradoss, former Registrar of Tamil Nadu Government, was the chief guest. Principal (in-charge) Dr. K. Jayabalan delivered the presidential address and Head of the Department Dr. M. Karuppanalagu welcomed the chief guest.

Wealth from waste

Latha Mathavan Engineering College, Madurai, celebrated Entrepreneurship Development program on March 12. S.V. Pathy, Founder and chairman of CENS, Madurai addressed the gathering. He shared his experience with regard to generating ‘wealth from waste’ and how to become an entrepreneur with the help of bio-environment.

Faculty development

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Velammal College of Engineering & Technology, Madurai, conducted a three-day faculty development programme titled ‘Research Methodologies’ from March 12 to 14. Around 80 delegates participated in the programme.

Intercollegiate seminar

The Department of Botany at Thiagarajar College (autonomous), Madurai, organised an intercollegiate state level students’ seminar on “Information and Communication Technology in Biology” on February 22. It was organised under the auspices of DBT Star College Scheme, New Delhi. Issues relating to structural biology, computational biology, proteomics and genomics were discussed. Chief guest Dr. Sankaranarayanan elaborated on structural genomics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Crash test of cars

Student members of Mechanical Engineering Students Association (MESINA) of Madurai Institute of Engineering & Technology, Madurai, made presentations on crash test of cars, renewable energy, adaptive cruise control, combustion modelling, feasibility of pet coke in power plants and stealth – aircrafts on March 1. The arrangements were made by Mechanical Engineering department staff under the guidance of college chairman S.T. Ramachandran and principal Dr. G. K. Dwaraka Nath.

IGNIZ 2K13

Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Raja College of Engineering and Technology, Madurai, organised ‘IGNIZ 2K13,’ a national level symposium, on March 15. S. M. Navas Khan, IT Analyst, Tata Consultancy Services, Chennai, was the chief guest. Chairman Lion G. Nagarajan applauded the participants of various colleges. About 100 participants from various colleges participated in technical events like Cartus Presentus, Debuggante, Kvizon, Mimpi Besar and non-technical events such as Yetenek Ifade, Tu ‘a Moi.

A seminar on research issues in Digital Image Processing was conducted by the Department of Computer Application of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi. Dr. R.A. Alagu Raja, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai; Dr. B. Sathya Bama, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai and Dr. D. Selvathi, Professor, Department of ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College were the resource persons. Around 80 participants participated in the seminar.

Communication trends

P. S. R. Rengasamy College of Engineering for Women, Sivakasi, organised a national conference on “Recent Trends in Electrical, Electronics, Communication and Computing Technologies” on March 15. K. Ramesh, General Manager, HR & Admin, GoDB Tech Pvt. Ltd., Chennai was the chief guest. He spoke about the upcoming 4G Technology and suggested ideas for project work. The function was presided by Sundar Ramdoss, Director, P.S.R. Group of Institutions.

Celebrating ethnicity

Department of English of Sarah Tucker College at Palayamkottai organised an international conference on ‘Celebration of ethnicity and alterity for cultural diversity’ recently, in which scholars from India and abroad participated. Rev. Thomas Thangaraj, Professor Emeritus of World Christianity, Candler School of Theology, Emory University, USA delivered the keynote address. Principal of the college Jasmine Mathialagan, Controller of Examination, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, S. Prabhakar and others spoke.
