An intercollegiate cultural fest ‘Springs 2K13’ was organised by Fatima College, Madurai on August 24. Vice-principal Rev. Sr. Lilly Kutty presided over the inaugural. Playback singer ‘Malgudi’ Shubha was the guest of honour for the valedictory. Lady Doak College bagged the maximum prizes and won the overall shield and S. Keerthika of Thiagarajar College was adjudged as Ms. Springs. The second place was bagged by APC Mahalakshmi College, Tuticorin and the third place was shared between ANJA College, Sivakasi and Cauvery College, Tiruchi.
The business club of Michael Institute of Management, Madurai, arranged for an interaction between the MBA students and G. Sridhar, Managing Director of Senthil Murugan Jewellers on August 22. It also organised a debate between students on the theme ‘Privatisation of Commercial Banks’ on August 23. Professor P. Samson of the Department of Management Studies in Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat delivered a lecture on August 24 on career prospects for MBA students in gulf countries. Michael Institute’s director R. Bernardshaw presided over the events.
The department of mathematics of Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College, Poovanthi conducted an inter-collegiate competition on August 22. Around 10 colleges participated and Fatima College from Madurai won the overall shield. J. Ashok, Assistant Secretary of the organising college’s management committee, committee member K.M. John Natesan and Principal C. Ramalakshmi participated in the inaugural and valedictory functions.
Workshop on AJAX
Department of Computer Applications of Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai organised a ‘Workshop on AJAX, JQuery and JSON’ recently. R. Rajkumar, HR Manager, DLeaf Software Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Chennai was the chief guest. Professor V. Subburaj, faculty Member of MCA department of Thiagarajar School of Management conducted the technical sessions.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of K.L.N. College of Engineering, Pottapalayam conducted a two-day faculty development programme on ‘VLSI Design flow with hands on Training for Academicians’ recently. Around 30 faculty members from various engineering colleges participated. Principal A.V. Ramprasad, Dean K.S. Renga Rao, head of the department V. Kejalakshmi presided over the programme.
The mechanical engineering department of Sethu Institute of Technology organised a mechatronics workshop in association with Chennai based Trident Technology recently. Principal A. Senthil Kumar presided over the event. The college’s Department of Information Technology also organised a two-day workshop on Image Processing on August 22 and 23. Balasubramanian Raman from the Department of Mathematics in IIT-Roorkee was the resource person.

The Personality Development Cell of Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi and JCI, Sivakasi jointly organised a training program on ‘Leader in You’ on August 23. Over 190 students participated.
Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College for Women, Karaikudi organised an awareness programme on the importance of blood donation on August 27. Principal S. Lakshmi presided over the function. M. Guru Pandi, zonal co-ordinator of Youth Red Cross, Alagappa University, Karaikudi advised students to organise blood donation camps in the college campus.

Ball badminton tourney
Sree Sowdambika College of Engineering, Aruppukottai organised ‘Chennai Anna University’s 17th zonal level ball badminton tournament for men 2013-2014’ on August 24. Principal Sivakumar presided over the function. College management committee president Baskararajan inaugurated the competition and Karthikeyan, secretary, Virudhunagar district Ball Badminton Association distributed the prizes to the winners. PSNA College of Engineering, Dindigul; Anna University College of Engineering, Dindigul and Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, Virudhunagar bagged the first three prizes respectively.
AAA College of Engineering & Technology, Sivakasi along with Virudhunagar Rotary Club organised a two-day Leadership Training Programme recently. On day one, the training focussed on issues such as thinking outside box, dynamic study skills and leadership skills. It was followed by a campfire. The second day started with a trekking and dealt with issues like goal setting, memory power and health is wealth.
