Alumnae meet

The alumnae meet of Fatima College (autonomous) was held on July 13.

A large number of former students gathered to celebrate the occasion. Guest of honour, M.K. Sivagama Sundari, principal, SVN College of Education, shared her fond memories of Fatima College. She remembered with gratitude the dedicated staff members who played a significant role in inspiring and honing her language skills. S. Geetha, head of the research department of English, presented the alumnae report for the academic year 2012-13. Alumni association president S.J. Kala also spoke.

Awareness programme

The Centre for Women Empowerment of Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai conducted a special awareness programme for the first year under graduate women students.

Principal M. Kannan presided over the function. V.M. Vijayalakshmi, family counsellor, delivered a special address. More than 200 students participated in the function.

Commerce club inaugurated

The Department of Commerce of Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College at Poovanthi inaugurated its club SIVCOM-JUVENTAS on July 18. Chief guest A.I. Auxilia Felicitas, Associate Professor, Research Centre of Commerce, Fatima College, Madurai delivered a special address on ‘Work Climate Faced in Future.’ College director V.K. Rajamani delivered the presidential address and Principal C. Ramalakshmi offered her felicitations. The Department of IT and BCA of the same college inaugurated its association MSTechfeast’13 on July 19. M. Ramasamy, Associate Professor, Alagappa Government Arts College, Karaikudi, delivered a special lecture on ‘Recent trends in Computer hardware.’

Quiz competition

The IEEE students’ chapter of P.S.R. Rengasamy College of Engineering for Women, Sivakasi organised an ‘Intra College Quiz Competition’ on July 12. Principal K. Ramasamy was the chief guest. Around 350 participants from various departments participated in the event. Fifteen students from ECE, EEE, CSE and IT departments were shortlisted for the competition after a preliminary test.

Orientation for staff

Sree Sowdambika College of Engineering at Chettikurichi organised a orientation programme for its teachers on June 29. Around 110 staff members participated. College management committee secretary C. Sundaramoorthy and principal Sivakumar participated. Vanniarajan, Ilango, Jeyabalan and Sivasubramanian were the resource persons.

Faculty development

The department of computer science engineering at Kalasalingam University in Krishnankovil organised a two-day faculty development programme on ‘Wireless Communication and Networks’ recently.

Registrar V. Vasudevan, head of the department of computer science Devaraj, and a host of other faculty members from various colleges addressed the staff members.

Health awareness

The National Service Scheme (unit no. 179, 180, 181, 182, 210) of the Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College, Sivakasi organised a health awareness programme on July 15.

Angela Gnanathurai, vice principal of Dr. Somerwell Memorial College, CSI Medical College Hospital, Kerala addressed the National Service Scheme volunteers on the topic ‘Health and Hygiene.’

‘A’ grade conferred

Sri Kaliswari College (autonomous) has been conferred with ‘A’ grade (3.30 CGPA) by the NAAC committee of UGC which paid a visit to college during the last week of March 2013.

College management committee secretary A.P. Selvarajan appreciated the faculty of the college, students and non-teaching staff for the achievement.
