Cycling for a cause
A cycling expedition was undertaken by 20 NCC cadets of the eighth Kar Bn NCC division last Saturday. Based on the theme “Save environment”, the students rode 73 km from Surana College to Savandurga in Bangalore Rural District with placards on their cycles.
Battling difficulties posed by the rough terrains of the hilly ranges, the cadets cycled via Toll Gate, Sunkadakatte, Tippagondanahalli, Tavarakere, Magadi and on to Savandurga.
A three-day national workshop on the “Emerging trends in Pharmacology” was held from October 16 to October 18. Chief guest M.N. Subhash, professor and head of neurochemistry at NIMHANS, spoke on recent developments in the field of neurosciences.
Joshua J. Allan, head of the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Natural Remedies Pvt. Ltd., spoke about the changing scenario in industry-academic interaction. Suryanarayana, PES Academic Director, presided over the function. M.V. Satyanarayana, PES Director, and S. Mohan, Principal of PES College of Pharmacy, were present.
Blood donation camp
A blood donation camp was organised by the NCC and NSS units of the PES Institutions in collaboration with Rastrothana Parishath on Tuesday in Hanumanthanagar.
B.S. Suryanaraya, Director of PESIAS, S. Mohan, Principal of PES College of Pharmacy, C.V. Bharath, NSS Officer, and Surendra Reddy, NCC Officer, were present as the first unit out of the 144 units of blood donated was formally handed over by P.G. Subramanyam, Principal of the PES College, to Sumithra and S. S. Shastry of Rastrothana Parishath.
Student exchange programme
The award-winning campus of SDM-Institute for Management Development at Mysore has a reason to smile. An agreement on a student and faculty exchange programme has been signed between SDM-IMD and Texas A & M University.
The agreement states that four students from SDM-IMD will be given the opportunity to attend courses for a semester at the Mays Business School, of the American University, while four students from Mays would be welcomed to the SDM-IMD campus.
The agreement also makes room for a five-week summer programme on conducting business in India aimed at undergraduate students from Mays. This agreement was penned only a few months after SDM-IMD signed a similar agreement with the Global Management Education Institute of Shanghai University.
Research position at BU
Bangalore University has invited applications for the post of Project Fellow to work under a research project titled “People’s Biodiversity Register” (PBR), which pivots around the documentation of biodiversity of Bangalore Urban District.
The research will be funded by the Karnataka Biodiversity Board. Researchers in the field of biodiversity with working experience in recognised laboratories and a first class M.Sc. degree in Environmental Science, Botany or Zoology are welcome to apply.
The applications on a plain white paper coupled with certified copies of documents must reach Nandini N., Principal Investigator, Department of Environmental Science, Bangalore University, Bangalore-560056, on or before October 30.
Faculty development programme
Seshadripuram Institute of Management hosted a faculty development programme on “Case Analysis and Report Writing” on October 18. Resource persons at the programme included founder-director of IIMB N.S. Ramaswamy and Rajendra Nargundkar, Dean, IFIM Campus in Bangalore.
The programme was held under the consortium approach, which is a joint venture of eight different colleges in Bangalore.
