Student Project Programme: The two-day 36th series of the State-level seminar and Student Project Programme (SPP) organised on the campus of Angadi Institute of Technology and Management in Belgaum city recently witnessed a host of innovative activities with engineering students from across the State showcasing their talents through their projects on various topics.

The event, jointly organised by AITM and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), received a huge response. Over 100 projects were displayed ; 69 seminars were held; and more than 500 students from 90 colleges, accompanied by 95 guides, participated.

A project of the Electrical and Electronics department of Angadi Institute of Technology and Management was lauded as one of the best projects by KSCST. BVB College of Engineering, Hubli, bagged the ‘Overall Championship.’

Y.B. Ramakrishna, former executive chairman of Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board, advised the students to take their projects beyond the laboratories for the benefit of society. Industry participation is an important component of such events for the commercialisation of ideas.

S. Sreenivas Murthy, Vice-Chancellor, Central University, Gulbarga, was impressed with the exhibition and the innovative ideas of the students.

AITM Director Uday S. Hampannavar thanked KSCST for providing the institute an opportunity to host the event. Anil Kumar Korishetti coordinated the event.

International Year of Statistics: The Department of Statistics at the Lingaraj College and Raja Lakhamgouda Science Institute in Belgaum city celebrated the “International Year of Statistics” last Tuesday.

S.N. Hegde, Principal, JSS College, Dharwad, the chief guest, spoke on the topic “A critical overview of some statistical methods on policy framing, decision making and forecasting”. Statistical officers serving in government offices, and lecturers/professors teaching statistics in Belgaum and Bailhongal taluks participated.

N.S. Chougula, Chief Planning Officer of Zilla Panchayat (retired), Belgaum, spoke on application of statistics in government offices.

G.H. Divator, Assistant Director of Statistics, Belgaum, gave hints on how to use statistical data for applications in day-to-day life.

Student Poonam rendered the invocation and Sadika compered the programme. Lingaraj College Principal S.S. Masali presided over the function. RLSI Principal V.G. Astagi, and Principal of R.L. Pre-University College C.N. Naikar were present.
