GITAM University has developed a unique web casting system at its Centre for Distance Learning by which classes will be streamed live via the internet accessible through the GITAM Website. Students can avail the facility by logging in using a password given by the CDL. The endeavor will be a boon for students in rural areas and those always on the move or in office as they will be able to listen to high quality lectures. The entire course material will also be available online and students will be able to submit assignments online and receive the corrected assignment back as well.
The university has been offering distance learning programs with permission from Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi on the recommendation of the joint committee of the UGC-AICTE-DEC. GITAM was among the earliest Universities to obtain DEC Joint Committee permissions.
Initially the DEC accorded program-wise recognition to GITAM University for a period of 3 academic years 2009-10 to 2011-12 to offer MBA, MA, MCom, MCA, M.Sc.Biotechnology, BA, BCom and PG Diploma in Communication Skills, Environmental & Sustainable Management (PGDECM) and Diploma in Communication English (DCE), Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA). The DEC extended the recognition to run 13 programs through distance mode for a period of two academic year’s 2012-13 to 2013-13.
GITAM University Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. D.Harinarayana at an interaction with the media spoke about the growing demand for distance education. The said those looking to give a boost to their career are benefiting immensely.
GITAM-CDL is also planning to start new PG programs like MA Telugu, MA Journalism and UG programs like BBM, BBA in coming years.
