All about Ford, Commonwealth and Indian and Singapore Youth Scholoarships

These are among the various foreign scholarships available for students in the country.

Ford Fellowships

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program provides opportunities for advanced study for exceptional candidates who intend to use this education to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries. Support is provided up to three years of formal graduate-level study leading to a masters or doctoral degree. Once selected, Fellows may enrol in an appropriate university programme anywhere in the world, including their country of residence. Fellowship covers financial assistance for travel, living expenses, tuition and related costs for the actual degree programme, short-term pre-fellowship training, including language study and courses in research and computer skills. EligibilityApplicants should be Indian nationalsHold a Bachelor's or a Master's degree from a recognised Indian university with at least 55 per cent marks. Candidates applying for Ph.D. programmes should have completed Master's degree with at least 60 per cent marks.Have at least two years' full-time work experience relevant to their proposed area of study.IFP support will not exceed 3 years. Eligibility

Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification, with a second class honours or above, securing 55 per cent or above marks in the humanities and social science group, and 60 per cent and above marks in medical, engineering and technology, science and agriculture groups. Candidates should give a one-page write-up in support of their decision to pursue the course in the U.K.Candidates who wish to undertake postgraduate study in business management should have secured a GMAT score. Candidates for awards in economics and related subjects should be aware that a number of departments might require them, before admission, to pass the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).For Ph.D. Degree-Master's Degree it is required to secure 55 per cent and above marks in humanities and social science group and 60 per cent and above marks in engineering and technology, science and agriculture groups.Value of awardApproved tuition and examination feesA personal maintenance allowance payable monthlyTo and fro airfareA grant for expenses of approved travel within the U.K. An initial arrival allowance, incorporating a clothing grant for scholars from tropical countries. A*Star India Youth Scholarships

Tenable for four years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education `Advanced' (GCE `A') Level (or equivalent) certificate. Outstanding A*Star India Youth Scholars may be further identified for the A*Star Young Researchers Attachment Programme.EligibilityIndian National 14 plus to 16 plus years old, with at least an average of 85 per cent in the Classes VI, VII and VIII school examinations. The applicant should possess a high level of oral and written competency in English.Allowance of Singapore $2,200 (Secondary)/Singapore $2,400 (Pre-University) per annum with hostel accommodation; S$200 settling-in allowance (one time); air passage to Singapore and back; Waiver of school fees and donation to the Education Fund, and GCE `O' and `A' Level examination fees. Subsidised medical benefits and accident insurance cover. SIA Youth Scholarship

Tenable for two years' studies in selected Singapore Junior Colleges leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education `Advanced' (GCE 'A') Level (or equivalent) certificate. Students who perform well in the GCE `A' Level (or equivalent) Examination may apply for the undergraduate scholarships offered by the National University of Singapore or the Nanyang Technological University.

Eligibility

Indian National 16 plus to 18 plus years old, with at least an average of 85 per cent with English as first language in the Class X.Allowance of S$2,400 per annum with hostel accommodation, S$200 settling-in allowance (one time), air passage to Singapore and back, Waiver of school fees and donation to the Education Fund, and GCE `A' Level examination fees (one time), Subsidised medical benefits and accident insurance cover.
