The Bidar-based Drushti Foundation will offer vocational courses in eye care from June. "We will train students to become Optometric Assistants, Ophthalmic Assistants, Operation Theatre Assistants and Optical Shop Managers," said Umesh Megur, president of the Foundation which runs a tertiary eye hospital and a charity clinic, Seva Netralaya, in Bidar. "Our curriculum is prepared for students who have completed their Pre-University Science courses. We will provide practical training in our peripheral hospitals. This helps them handle non-emergencies," Dr. Megur said. The Foundation already offers two fellowships for eye surgeons. Fresh postgraduates are admitted to the six-month Fellowship in General Ophthalmology. Practising surgeons can opt for the two-week course in Small Incision Cataract surgery and Phaco Emulsification.RISHIKESH BAHADUR DESAI
