‘Excel 2011' is all ready to witness a battle of brains between the best engineering talents in the country.

The latest edition of the annual technical symposium organised by the Government Model Engineering College at Thrikakkara in Kochi will witness students from across the State and outside displaying their technical and creative skills.

The theme of this year's “Excel” beginning from September 23 is “Reaching beyond.” Sabu George, “Excel 2011” chairman, says the event this time will be a journey into a space less travelled.

“The three-day ‘Excel 2011' guarantees learning, entertainment, and an overall experience that is truly, out of this world. This year's programme features a wide roster of online events, which are already under way. From traditional circuit design and debugging events to programming challenges to paper presentations and quiz, “Excel” offers a challenge to the participants,” he says.

Mr. George says the emphasis on teamwork and coordination adds an extra dimension to the otherwise standard coding contest. 8086 debugging is another Excel tradition, which tests the very core algorithmic skills of participants by encouraging them to code in the most primitive language.

“Excel 2011” also features workshops by Delphi, Cosmic Circuits, and Bosch, with each session carefully planned to present an opportunity for the participants to learn and harness invaluable technical skills. “Excel Nights” will feature a concert by the popular band “Avial.”

There will be a TEDxMEC event as part of the programme. Noted persons from across the State are expected to attend the event. Discussions on the involvement of the youth in India's political system and their potential and scope in furthering the rule of democracy will be held on the occasion.
