An undergraduate degree is not just enough. Students these days are pursuing higher studies and acquiring additional qualifications outside their regular curriculum apart from on-the-job training.
To facilitate such academic environment, St. Francis Degree College, Begumpet signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with St. Ambrose University, Iowa, USA.
The MoU will facilitate exchange of students and faculty members, special short term academic programs and joint research activities along with workshops and seminars. “We want it to work in both directions so that we are able to provide quality education,” said Joan M. Lescinski, President and Professor of English while signing the MoU.
She added that apart from providing a global exposure to the students, the various programmes will also open new career opportunities for the students.
Based on merit and recommendations from the college, the students will be able to choose programmes based on their choice, which will be an extension of their subjects and the syllabus that they have undertaken for the undergraduate degree.
The programmes are open to all the students. Ten students are already set for the summer programme at the university this year in the department of Business and Managerial Studies.
Uma Joseph, History, Head of the Department said that, “We are starting with the commerce department first, where students can get extra credits for the courses they take at St. Ambrose. The course structure is same in both the institutions.” Though the courses are available only for the commerce and business students but plans of extending it to the other department are being considered.
