SSM College of Engineering, Komarapalayam, has started offices in Sri Lanka for its Academy of International Studies.

According to M.S. Mathivanan, chairman of the college, collaborative programmes will be offered in fashion technology, apparel management, BBA and MBA in textiles management and hotel management, computer-related programmes and short-term courses for industrial personnel in specialised areas.

The college has started offices in Colombo and Batticaloa and the courses will commence in two months. Initially, about 600 students are expected to enrol in these programmes, he said.

The college was holding talks with three Universities in India for approval for these programmes. The short-term training sessions will be in collaboration with National Institute of Textile and Clothing.

A number of students are now coming to India from Sri Lanka every year to pursue higher studies. The SSM college centres will help them continue their studies in Sri Lanka. The programme is supported by the Sri Lankan Government, he said.
