Holi ended on a tragic note for a group of young men, when one of them fell to death from the terrace of the house they were living in Sithalapakkam near Tambaram on March 8.

Devendra Malik (22), son of Surendra Malik, hailed from Mangalpur, Jajpur district of Odisha. He was working in a factory making cigarette lighters in Sithalapakkam. He was living with 11 others, mostly from his home State, in a rented house.

Devendra was celebrating Holi along with his room mates in the evening. Some of them had consumed liquor, said personnel of Pallikaranai station. After the revelry, the young men slept on the terrace of the two-storey building. At 6 a.m. next day, Devendra was found by his room mates on the ground with injuries to his temple, ears and face.

Police personnel took him to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following a complaint from Sudharshan Malik, the victim's cousin,, a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been registered. Investigations are on, the police said, adding the terrace did not have the safety parapet wall.
