About 170 varieties of handcrafted items along with regular stock are on display at the Dastkar Chennai Mela, being organised by craftsmen from different regions.
The exhibition is on at Sri Sankara Hall, Alwarpet.
The crafts groups are now coming to the city and offering craftsmen support services including, skills training, design and product development throughout the year.
The exhibition has traditional collection of textiles, handlooms, painting, gemstones, artificial jewellery, and other items from all over the country.
A colourful display of miniature paintings, furniture, leaf painting, silk painting, velvet and canvas painting, colourful Chennapatana toys, specially made Kondapalli toys, Odhisa sarees, Jaipur quilts, lac jewellery, exclusive Khadi materials, and other full range of exporter items, are on display.
Dastkar has developed new products for the exhibition and has provided marketing assistance to artisans producing a variety of products.
The exhibition will be on from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. till March 28.
