Unbeaten throughout, S. Yogit, a 10{+t}{+h}standard student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir School, ensured a grand win in the Modern SSS FIDE rated chess tournament held recently. Apart from the winner’s trophy, Yogit also got a cash prize of Rs 25,000 for his wonderful effort.

The tournament had attracted over 250 school children not only from Tamil Nadu but also from Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry and Maharashtra.

There were a few participants from Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and UAE. Among the participants were around 117 international-rated players including WFM G.K. Monisha and C. Lakshmi, P.C. Akash Iyer, Samyuktha, B. Kumaran (finished runner up), Vasantha Ruba Varman, V. Shvetha, L. Barath, Ishan Bansal.

The tournament was organised under the guidance of S. Pattabiraman, Secretary of the School and V. Ravichandran, chess coach.

The valedictory function was presided over by D.V. Sundar, FIDE Vice President. Grand Master M.R. Venkatesh was the guest of honour. Prof S. Veeraraghavan, School President, Dr Ms M.K. Mohana,Principal and M. Vijayakumar, Chief Arbiter were present on the occasion.
