Toy'z Day Out, which pioneered the concept of a Toys Lending Library in the city, has gone a step further and opened a themed play area named ‘Play Day Out' and a kids' party hall called ‘Party Day Out' in Velachery.

Techie couple Lokesh Lingaiah and Kavitha, who have begun this venture, say the facility is a continuation of their “Day Out” series — a ‘Fun Center' for children aged below eight years.

The centre was inaugurated with much fanfare recently by Airtel Super Singer Junior fame L. Shrikanth and a host of television personalities. Shrikanth has been roped in as the company's brand ambassador and will be promoting the brand for a full year.

Talking about their centre, Lokesh, the managing director, says: “The concept is to entertain children through pretend play. At the same time, we want kids to learn while playing.”

Adds Kavitha, who has lived in the U.S. for some years with her family before settling down here: “We want this to be a Las Vegas for kids. We want to create the lights, colours, sounds and the show times that one enjoys out there.”

Thus, the brightly painted and decorated themed play area, which is fully carpeted to protect toddlers, has a police station, hospital, market place, kitchen, nursery, school and a pirates' ship — all stocked with appropriate costumes, accessories and kits. There is a Tree House that has a boxing ring on top, with a slide coming down from it, as well as an art corner. The Toddlers' area has a ball pit, a swing and a slide. The music corner is filled with piano, drum etc. Other attractions in the spacious hall are rock climbing, extreme roller coaster and cozy cars.

Kavitha says that they are working on a theme for the play area. “The place will be decorated according to the theme. Every weekend, there will be a show time and games will be conducted around the theme. Kids will also get a return gift.

The charge for the play area is on an hourly basis, while there is a membership fee for Toy'z Day Out. In just over a year, there are more than 250 members in the toy library, which has also started door delivery for online orders.

As for the Party Day Out, the tastefully done party area — complete with a stage and cute little tables and chairs — is ideal for holding birthday bashes.

The parties too come with themes and decorations. “We will organize puppet shows, games, make-over parties where we will dress up the kids, arrange for tattoo artists, pop corn/cotton candy stalls etc,” says Kavitha. The hall has a ramp walk and a projector so that the clients can even bring photos and organize a slide show for their guests. What is more, the party hall package includes the use of the play area.

Indra Priyadarshini and Sai Anand, who celebrated the birthdays of their two daughters which fall on the same date (November 12) at Party Day Out said their girls had a fantastic experience, far removed from the usual cake cutting at home. They said better car parking facility would be ideal.

On Children's Day, the entire play area was thrown open to the public. Some kids came in fancy dresses. The centre conducted games such as plastic lemon on spoon races and parachute ball play. Prizes were given to the winners. Kids sang their favourite songs.

Toy'z Day Out is at 27 and 28, Second Floor, Vijayanagar Extension, Velachery Main Road, Velachery. Phone: 6515 7412, 98403 24074.
