Sunday special: The Sunday market at Charminar has a good collection of antiques.

If you happen to be one amongst the many who crave to possess some toys and showpieces of the bygone era, then the Sunday market at Charminar could help you increase your collection.

The place spots many stalls that sell antique showpieces like long binoculars, telephones, artefacts, clocks that are usually seen in museums across the world and at many offices of the rich and influential.

A larger part of these antiques find their way through homes of people where in it formed part of the showcase collection.

“People come and dispose these articles at our stalls for a price, we repair and polish them and sell it to the public,” says Munnawar, a trader. Not all of these are original pieces a part of them are just imitation pieces.

Though many of these could be just imitation pieces it would be hard for anyone to make out the difference.

“It is very hard to differentiate between original and imitation, these are ideal for those who cannot invest heavily but crave to maintain a collection of some old show pieces,” says Khawaja, another trader.

“I am found of ancient binoculars, and the sand clock, I had come to know through my friends that it could be found in this market,” says Ranjeet, an interior designer.

“The articles are abundant and the price is cheaper, if one waits at the place for a longer time, one can directly buy it from the people who come to dispose it off,” says Amarendar, a regular to the place.

The articles remind one of the exotic collections at the Salar Jung museum, he says.
