It was a confidence-personified performance of T.K. Prathiba at the arangetram celebration held at Narada Gana Sabha, Alwarpet, on October 7. Starting her performance with a Pushpanjali, essentially an invocatory piece wherein the dancer invokes the blessing of the almighty through a simple offering of flowers, Ms. Prathiba danced through more than one-hour show with elan.

Following the Pushpanjali, she performed Alarippu and then Jatiswaram, an essential item in the traditional Barathanatyam Margam and then a Varnam.

Perfectly synchronising with Rama Swaminathan’s ‘nattuvangam’ and Swamimalai S.K. Suresh’s vocal, Ms. Prathiba performed like an experienced dancer, to thunderous applause. Veena Gayathri, Honorary Director, Government Music College, and former High Court Judge V. Rangasamy, witnessed the dance performance.

Ms. Prathiba is a disciple of Natya Sankalpaa run by Urmila Sathyanarayanan, a Kalaimamani awardee, has been practising Bharata natyam for several years.

The dance programme was assisted by Dhananjayan on the mirudangam, T. Sasidhar on the flute and Veena by N.V.S.Radha.
